OPEN TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

2005 | 2006 | 2007 | 2008 | 2009

The first five-year program open to international students will start in 2005. The winter programs are designed to guide students to gain a clear understanding of the Sutrayana view and finally of the Mantrayana view. The Spring Meditation programs are aimed at guiding students from basic Shamatha meditation through the progressive stages of Vipashyana meditation, and finally meditation on Mahamudra. Though advisable, it is not mandatory for students to attend both the winter and spring programs. Students will benefit whether or not they are able to attend the whole five years or any year(s).

The recommended study for each year’s winter program is to attend the public teachings as well as two of the supplementary classes in Tibetan Language and scriptures. Each year the main subject taught in the public teaching will be divided into related topics which will be studied in depth in the supplementary classes. The supplementary classes will be taught using the Tibetan texts and their English translations. It is not necessary to know the Tibetan language to follow these classes, but students will discover that studying the concepts in the Tibetan language will provide a more subtle understanding of the topics. For students with no background in Tibetan, there will be a beginner's Tibetan language class, which can be taken in conjunction with the other supplementary classes.

Requirement for Fifth Year (2009) Winter & Spring Programs: The requirement for attending the Mantrayana teachings in the fifth year winter program is to have completed or started the Ngöndro practices (the Four Foundations). The requirement for attending the spring meditation program in the fifth year is to have completed at least 10,000 of each of the four Ngöndro practices.

Certificates of Attendance would be awarded to students who attend the full 5 years winter program and are successful in the annual examinations. Though not compulsory, students could sit for the examinations conducted annually.
