Village Community Education Projects
Shree Jana Jagriti Lower Secondary School,
Jagdol, Kathmandu, Nepal

In 1990, Shree Jana Jagriti Lower Secondary School was a primary school with about 100 pupils from the villages of Jagdol, Baluwa, Chunikhel and Kopan. The classes there ranged from Class 1 to 5. However, the school lacked proper facilities and the Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche built two classrooms and offered further help.
In 1994, in carrying on the Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche's wish, a double-storey wing with six classrooms was constructed as a project of Ananda Sangh, Nepal. This allowed the school to increase its enrolment.
In 1996, the school was pressed to extend its classes to Class 8 to accommodate the progress in the pupils' education. However, there were insufficient classrooms. Ananda Sangh agreed to construct another double-storey wing with six more classrooms. The second wing was completed in 1997 and the school attained the status of a Lower Secondary school.
With the increased number of classes, the school required additional teachers. However, the income from school fees was unable to cover the full cost of salaries and Ananda Sangh agreed to their request for financial assistance.
In respect of the Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche's wish, Ananda Sangh has continued support for the School and improvement of its facilities for the benefit of education of the community's children.
Today, the School has more than 300 children and in appreciation of the shared effort by Ananda Sangh, it was appointed by the Community elders to the School's Board in 2002.

There are two primary schools in Lava and the Lava Jr. High School is one of three junior high schools within a radius of 30 kilometres catering to higher education of children who have completed primary education. The School serves the education of children in 15 villages and some come from as far as 17 kilometres away. At the end of 2002, the School had 140 children and the classes ranged from Class 5 to 8.
In India, the minimum qualification for admission to colleges and for official employment is Class 10. Therefore, in 2002, when the School's managing committee, the Town's Councillor and Lava's community elders broached Paramita Charitable Trust to help construct additional facilities for the School's so that it could extend the range of classes to Class 10, the Trust agreed to their request for assistance.
Through the generosity of devotees and disciples of H.E. Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche, the Trust received sufficient support to construct a new double-storey wing comprising two additional classrooms, one science laboratory, one library, and a teacher's room. The new wing was completed and opened by His Eminence on November 26, 2003, and pupils who had finished Class 8 the previous year are now able to continue their education up to Class 10 at Lava Jr. High School.

Village Community Road Development
Every year since 1994, Ananda Sangh has gradually widened and improved the Jagdol village road, making drains and retaining walls to prevent erosion. The society have also related closely with the people in the surrounding villages and supported the improvement of their pathways and roads.

Village Community Water Supply projects
Ward Kopan. Kathmandu, Nepal
Daily maintenance of the water supply lines from Shivapuri to the surrounding villages of Chunikhel, Jagadol, Baluwa, Kopan and Arubhari has taken place since 1995. The scheme has improved and provided consistent water supply to about 600 families. Previously, the water supply to the villages was often interrupted due to poor control and maintenance.

Lava, West Bengal, India
As the population in Lava grew, the water supply to the community became insufficient, and the villagers had to resort to buying water from tanks. The situation had adverse effects on hygiene and health in the community.
Lava Monastery, with a population of more than 150 monks then, was the largest consumer of the community's water. Therefore, the monastery decided to pursue a new source of water for its own needs.
In 2001, the monastery located a source seven kilometres away. After obtaining the necessary approvals, the monastery began construction of a supply system. The project was completed in 2002 and Lava Monastery was able to discontinue using water from the general supply to the town's community.
From the new source, the monastery is also supplying water to two community schools and a village in its neighbourhood.

Veterinary Projects
Since 2002, financial assistance has been given towards the care of dairy cows owned by farmers in poor and remote villages in the Darjeeling district. The project is aimed at disease control and nutritional care through the supply of injections medications, vitamins and minerals for the animals. The underlying objectives are to help poor farmers who rely on the sale of milk as a major source of income, and to ensure that the milk produced and sold to the locals are of good quality as it is a major source of their nutrition.
